End of Year Giving 2015

end-of-year-ask
God has been faithful to Grace City Church in 2015! As we look back on 2015 and all the Lord has done for the Fame of God & the Renewal of the City we can say with confidence, “God is faithful all the time.” It is such a joy and privilege to join God’s mission to mature & multiple disciples with the renewing power of the gospel. God uses our lives, our prayers, and our resources to get this work done on earth as it is in heaven. Thank you for faithfully being a part of the Grace City story in 2015. As we look at wrapping up another year, we want to ask you to consider what an end-of-year financial gift to Grace City could look like and how it would help.

In 2015, we launched what we call the S.O.W. fund (Send, Orphans, Widows); a fund that we are using to help send out church planting teams, advocate for orphans, and care for widows. You can see where the Bible calls us to care about these categories in Matthew’s gospel:

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:35-36

We will always have more opportunities than we will have resources to S.O.W. into our city. Would you consider helping us store up some seed to sow as we enter into 2016? Would you help us work towards planting neighborhood churches in the neighborhoods of Frankford and Fox Chase? Would you help us care for the widows & elderly of our city? Would you help us show love and compassion to the orphans & single mothers of our city? Earnestly pray and ask the Lord how you might be able to sacrifice for the good of those that are harassed and helpless all throughout Philadelphia.

To make an end-of-year gift, go to https://gracecityphilly.com/giving. You will find directions on how you can give online using a debit or credit card as well as directions on how you can mail a check. Remember, all end-year-gifts must be postmarked by December 31st. You can also put a contribution in the offering on Sunday, December 20th or 27th clearly marked “S.O.W. Fund.”

May the Lord bless us as we strive together to mature & multiply disciples, neighborhood by neighborhood, with the renewing power of the gospel!

Grace City Church Collective 70/10 Celebration Feast

celebration-banner-2

Recounting God’s grace in the past renews our affections for God in the present and fills us with fresh hope in God for the future.

Throughout the Old Testament we read how God’s people had regular rhythms of recounting and rejoicing in God’s past faithfulness by throwing large celebrations and feasts. Year after year these festive events served to make much of God while reminding & renewing the hearts of all God’s people. These rhythms demonstrate how good & pleasing it is to God for us to pause and reflect on how faithful He has been to us in the past and have our hearts stirred to trust him for our future.

This is what we are going to do on Saturday, October 3rd. The congregations of Grace City Church are gathering to enjoy a celebration feast (aka party) in order to recount & rejoice in God’s faithfulness over the past 70 years!

:: 70 Years Ago ::

Back in 1945 a group of disciples were led by the Holy Spirit to reach out to the children of the Pennypack projects of Holme Circle with the good news of Jesus. This outreach became the seed that soon became the planting of The Grace Bible Church of the Northeast.

For many decades, Grace Bible Church was a thriving local church proclaiming the good news of Jesus to the neighborhoods of Northeast Philly and even sent missionaries to the nations of the world. Many disciples were multiplied & matured for the fame of God & the renewal of the city. Jesus was building his church.

Then came a prolonged season of difficulty and decline. A church that was once so healthy & vibrant had now dwindled down to a handful of disciples wondering if it was time to close its doors for good. Although the church was a smoldering wick—God began to move in a way that indicated it was time to stop the funeral because it was his plan for the light of this local church to shine brightly once again.

:: 10 Years Ago ::

Back in 2005 a group of disciples were led by the Holy Spirit to partner with the remaining members of Grace Bible Church to replant the congregation with a renewed passion to multiply & mature disciples with the gospel for the fame of God & the renewal of the city. This replant became the seed that soon became Grace City Church of the Northeast—a congregation with a vision to multiply neighborhood churches through out the city.

Now a thriving family of neighborhood congregations, in partnership with Sovereign Grace Churches, Grace City is witnessing God faithfully work in us and through us to reach many neighbors and neighborhoods with the life-transforming power of the gospel. In 2013, Grace City Church of the Northeast sent out a group of disciples to plant Grace City Church of Wissinoming and announced in 2015 that two new Discipleship Communities were being formed to be the seeds for Grace City Church of Frankford & Grace City Church of Fox Chase.

Jesus is faithfully building his church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against us!

This is why we are throwing a party! Will you join us in recounting & celebrating the stories of God’s grace over the past 70 years? We believe it will make much of God’s faithfulness in the past, renew our affections for God in the present, and fill us with fresh hope for what God will do in us and through in the future?

Recommended Resource :: Structured Journal

Structured Journal

Hello Grace City Family,

As we continue our current sermon series, I want to recommend another resource to help us take our stand with Jesus. As we read our bibles, it is often easy to do so in a way where we quickly forget what we are reading and learning. We want to remember what we read and how God is changing us as we encounter him.

This is where the new Grace Alone Structured Journal from The Good News, Dudes comes in. It is a simply designed journal that encourages you to read, reflect, and respond to God’s Word daily. There are spots to record the date you are reading and which passage you are in, as well as a place to reflect on your reading and respond by writing out a prayer. One of the most helpful things on each page is a place to consider what you should share with your friends and family by using the hashtag #GraceAlone. This helps us remember that what we read isn’t just for our benefit, but that we should also be actively thinking about how to care for others by sharing encouraging words with our brothers and sisters in Christ as well as our unbelieving neighbors.

Not only is the structure of the journal exceptional, but the quality of the journal itself is phenomenal as well. Each journal is a hardbound book with 192 pages for entries with three color designs to choose from. Journals are $12 and can be purchased on The Good News, Dudes website here or at an upcoming Sunday Gathering at Lincoln HS for only $10. Please consider using this tool to help assist you in building your life on the authority of God’s Word!

deyoung-ebook-blog2x

Hello Grace City Family,

As we kicked off our new sermon series this past Sunday, I recommended a book from Kevin DeYoung entitled, Taking God At His Word. This is a very helpful book on helping followers of Jesus understand why we must build our lives on the authority of the Bible.

I have really exciting news. The publisher of this book, Crossway, has made this book available to download for FREE!!! I highly recommend that you take advantage of this great opportunity to have a very helpful resource at your fingertips at no cost to you. You can click this link to fill out a short questionnaire which will then lead you to your options for which e-book format you prefer to download. Please do this right away because the free offer only lasts until July 14th.

If you are not interested in electronic books, you can click this link to purchase a physical copy of the book from Amazon, who provides the best price that we could find.

We are grateful for faithful teachers of the Bible who help us wade through the confusion surrounding us in our culture with a firm conviction in the sufficiency of God’s Word!

Introducing Grace City Collective

collective_logo_centerGrace City Collective is what we call all events when we gather the neighborhood congregations of the Grace City Church Family to enjoy various expressions of our life and mission together.

Although the Grace City Family is scattered throughout Philadelphia in neighborhood congregations, we want to be intentional about making it a priority to experience our family unity by gathering all of our congregations together to enjoy worship, fellowship, and mission throughout the year.

We anticipate Grace City Collective events to be relational & missional highlights on our calendar as we unite our hearts to celebrate, proclaim, and live out the gospel for the fame of God & the renewal of the city!

Join us for our next Grace City Collective event on Sunday Night March 15th at 6pm as we gather at the Ashton Road Building for a night of Praise, Prayer & Prophetic ministry.

PRAISE. We will be celebrating what God has recently been doing through the renewing power of the gospel. Come ready to share.

PRAYER. We will be asking God the Father to do much more for his fame and the renewal of the Philadelphia. Come ready to ask.

PROPHECY. We will be pursuing God’s Spirit to strengthen & equip us for our united mission as a church family. Come ready to receive.

“For the Fame of God & the Renewal of the City”

Jesus—Good News

The apostle Paul wrote a letter to a church like ours in a city like ours & said,
“I am eager to proclaim the gospel to you who are in Rome.”

It’s like he’s saying, “I can’t wait to come to your city and talk to you about the good news of Jesus.”

You might be wondering, “Why would he be so eager to go there & proclaim the gospel?”

He makes it crystal clear—“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Paul is eager to proclaim the good news of Jesus because it has the power to bring God’s life-transforming grace into peoples lives.

Jesus Rescues—he forgives, delivers & reconciles.

Jesus Rules—he stabilizes, envisions & leads.

Jesus Renews—he restores, empowers & transforms.

When the gospel of Jesus Christ is unleashed, God’s saving power goes out transforming individual lives & entire cities.

The apostle knew all this from experience. Paul not only experienced the life-transforming power of Jesus himself, he had also been witnessing the life-transforming power of Jesus change the lives of countless others. All over the world the good news of Jesus was turning life after life, city after city, upside down for the fame of God!

Grace City, we want to grow in our faith that the good news of the crucified and risen Jesus has the power to turn individual lives & entire neighborhoods upside down for the fame of God & the renewal of our city. We long for this same eagerness to tell people the good news about Jesus. It’s our mission to unleash the gospel!

Are you ready & eager to proclaim it?  Do you believe in its power?

We trust these messages from the book of Romans will help stir you to be ready & eager to proclaim the gospel expecting Jesus to rescue, rule & renew all throughout the neighborhoods of Northeast Philadelphia.

If you’re not sure that the gospel of Jesus is good news join us over the next three Sundays as we consider why we believe it, celebrate it & can’t wait to tell you about it.

Jesus Recues—April 6th

Jesus Rules—April 13th
