New Member Sunday

This Sunday, we will be recognizing several people who are joining the Northeast congregation as members. Let’s thank God for the ways he continues to grow and build his church.

Foundations-Reformed
Grace City Foundations is a series of courses designed to ground the church family in our core values. At Grace City, we are reformed, gospel-centered, continuationist, complementarian, and missional. We desire to live according to God’s design as a community on mission with the good news about Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, trusting God to save his people from sin for his fame and the renewal of our city. Our first course, starting Sunday night October 5th at 6:30pm at the Ashton Rd. building, will be teaching what we mean we say we are reformed at Grace City.

Baptism
Are you a disciple of Jesus who hasn’t been baptized yet? Be a part of our upcoming Baptism Celebration on Sunday October 12th with this public expression of your commitment and identification with him as your Lord & Savior. You can fill out a form expressing your interest to be baptized at either the Information & Resource table on a Sunday or by clicking this link.

Tailgate Sunday

Tailgate Sunday
Tailgate Sunday is back! It was a blast back in April when we had our first edition, and we’re sure it will be another great time to hang out together. We have two returning trucks (Prime Stache & the Kraze Shark Kart) and also two new trucks (Brotherly Grub & Undrgrnd Donuts). Below you’ll see ideas of what to bring, what will already be available in the parking lot on Sunday, and prospective menus for the food trucks. As always, if you have any questions after reading this, feel free to email info@gracecityphilly.com or call the Grace City office at 215.677.2088.

Tailgate Sunday Guide

What to Bring

  • Chairs– Because we will be in a parking lot, you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible while you eat and hang out.
  • Games– The ultimate tailgating experience has to include games. We’d encourage you to bring games such as washers, cornhole, can jam or ladderball. Feel free to bring a soccer ball, football or frisbee to enjoy time in the open field at the school too.

What Will Be There
Food!!! Grace City will be providing some great pretzels for you to enjoy, and you will also have an opportunity to sample food from four great food trucks that we have lined up for you. Each truck will have drinks available as well. You are free to bring your own food and drinks too, but after seeing the great options below, we’re not sure you’ll want to.

Returning Trucks

Prime Stache

Stache
Prime Stache is a restaurant located on Chestnut St. in Old City. They are bringing their food truck again with four great options for you to choose from. They sold out of their burger and the Ron Burgundy in April, so we were pretty sure you guys would want them back!

Ron Burgundy $9.00
bbq pulled pork, rosemary roast pork, maple brined pork belly, savoy cabbage slaw, white American cheese on a long roll

Stache Burger $7.00
hand made herbed burger, chipotle aioli, green chiles, bacon, tomato, white American cheese

Kid’s Burger $5.00
white cheddar cheese, brioche bun

Buffalo Chicken Wrap $7.00
grilled chicken, ranch, lettuce, tomato

Kraze Shark Kart

Shark Kart

We will also have the Kraze Shark Kart returning which is run by a local Mayfair family. Kevin was excited to report that many of his great sandwiches are now on delicious Italian rolls. Here are some items the Shark Kart plans to offer along with some other surprises you can check out on Sunday.
Grilled Cheese $3.00

Grilled Ham & Cheese $5.00

Shark’s Philly Cheese Steak $7.00
steak with your choice of provolone or American, fried onions and mushrooms on Italian bread

Mac & Cheese for the kids will also be available

The Newcomers

Brotherly Grub

Brotherly Grub
Brotherly Grub is a gourmet food truck that does amazing burgers, wraps, hot dogs and whatever else they can think of. We don’t have an exact menu available yet for Brotherly Grub, but check out their Facebook page here to see some of their recent creations. Ask around and their customers will assure you that you won’t be disappointed if you give them a try on Sunday.

UNDRGRND Donuts

UNDRGRND
For this go around, we thought it would be a great idea to have a dessert truck. We asked around and one name was a recurring answer…UNDRGRND Donuts! It is the only gourmet food truck in the Philadelphia area that specializes in fresh, hot, handmade specialty donuts and can be found all over the city during the week. Locally, they have become a favorite at the Mayfair Farmer’s Market. UNDRGRND Donuts are created from only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients for you to enjoy. Check out some of their awesome donuts here.

Songs for Your Soul

I want to highlight two albums from Sovereign Grace Music. One relates to our current sermon series, and the other connects with Sunday’s sermon in particular.

Psalms

We’ve been singing several songs from Psalms during this Summer’s series, “Psalms: Fascinated by God.” The album, with each song based on a Psalm from the Old Testament, celebrates God’s character, offers exuberant praise, expresses desires for God’s presence, and cries out to God for help in times of trouble. The cumulative effect is to call us to praise the God who is always worthy, to “taste and see that the LORD is good.”

Come Weary Saints is for those who, like Asaph in Psalm 77, are in a time when they need to “fly by the instruments” because they are in a fog. “The instruments” are telling us that God is real, that he is strong, and that he uses his strength to redeem his people and lead them all the way home. The songs on this album will help us as we strive to remember the God who works wonders and to meditate on his marvelous deeds by pointing us to Jesus, the great savior who showed his love by giving his life for our sin.

Family Dedication Sunday
As parents we must be committed to transferring our love for God and the gospel of Jesus to our kids. This takes a lot of grace! Part of the grace God gives us for this great joy and responsibility comes from the community of the local church. We must help each other transfer the gospel to the next generation. Our next Family Dedication Sunday, which is taking place this Sunday, September 14th, is an opportunity to present yourself as parents with your child asking God and the church to partner with you in the adventure of raising our kids to love God and believe the gospel. We are in this together!

Who can participate?

  • Parents who are members or pursuing membership at Grace.
  • Parents whose children have been born within the past year.

If you are interested in participating in Family Dedication Sunday, please sign up online by clicking here.

Tailgate Sunday
This Sunday, September 14th, invite your neighbors out to join us as we have a tailgate party right after our Sunday Gathering. We have lined up several food trucks for you to be able to purchase lunch from, or feel free to bring your own. We’ll enjoy time together at the playground, in the parking lot and in the big open field right at Lincoln High School. Visit our blog on Thursday for a list of the food trucks and their menus.

This class is the first step for anyone that is interested in becoming a member of the Northeast congregation of Grace City. During these two Saturdays, Rob Chisholm, Pastor for Music & Spiritual Formation, will be teaching through the Bible’s teachings that call disciples to be committed to a local church and how it describes the role of the local church in the life of a disciple. A continental breakfast will be provided on both days, and lunch will be provided on the 13th. Child care will not be available. If you sign up, please plan on attending both Saturdays. This class will be offered quarterly, which means it will be offered again shortly if this time around does not work for you or your family to attend both meetings. You can sign up online here.
