This Weekend at Grace City

Below is a list of events that are happening this weekend at Grace City Church of the Northeast and how you can be involved.

EASTER-HUNTThis Saturday at 11:00am, the 4th Annual Mayfair Memorial Playground Easter Egg Hunt is taking place at the field in front of Lincoln High School. Because of your generous contributions of candy over the past three Sundays, we were able to deliver an overflowing box of candy and plastic eggs to the organizers of the event. The cost for each child to participate in the hunt is $3. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to install the last piece of equipment at the playground.

EasterSaturday at 12:30pm, we will be gathering in the parking lot at Lincoln H.S. to go into Mayfair with doorhanger invitations for our Good Friday & Easter Gatherings. Please consider coming out to help us spread the word about these upcoming gatherings, and pray that God would bring many new people out to Grace City to hear the gospel.

Benevolent Offering

This Sunday, we will be collecting the monthly benevolent offering that is used to meet emergency needs of families within the church and in our community. Please pray about your contribution. If you need to benefit from this resource please fill out a benevolence request form at the Information & Resource table on a Sunday, or talk to your Discipleship Community leader or any members of the pastoral team. You will then be contacted by Bill Rodebaugh who is our Director of Benevolence & Holistic Life Care.

30: Three Decades of Songs for the Church

30: Three Decades of Songs for the ChurchToday the newest album from Sovereign Grace Music released, “30: Three Decades of Songs for the Church.” God has shown incredible favor over the last 30 years to Sovereign Grace Music and this album reflects some of our favorite songs from the past 30 years.

Sovereign Grace Music describes the album like this:

It all started in 1984 with the release of Mighty God, a cassette tape of a live recording with songs penned by Mark Altrogge, Steve & Vikki Cook, and Bob Kauflin.

Since that time thirty years ago, Sovereign Grace Music has produced over 60 projects with musical styles ranging from rap to hymns, from rock to alternative, from remixes to choruses. We’ve recorded more than 500 songs written by over thirty writers, but our purpose has never changed: to serve the local church with songs that are theologically-driven and gospel-rich. Our music is now being translated into thirteen languages and we’re grateful to play a part in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

To celebrate God’s faithfulness, we asked a number of artists and musicians we’ve come to know through the years to record a version of some of our more well known songs. We were excited about what they came up with, and hope you will be too.

“Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day” (Ps. 96:1-2).

We would encourage you to download this album and let the truth of the songs saturate your soul as you worship Jesus.

Tailgate Sunday

Tailgate

We are looking forward to our first ever Tailgate Sunday this week. Since this is a first for us at Grace City, we thought that it would be helpful to provide a Tailgating Survivor’s Guide for you to have the ultimate tailgating experience. Below you’ll see ideas of what to bring and what will already be available in the parking lot on Sunday. As always, if you have any questions after reading this, feel free to email info@gracecityphilly.com or call the Grace City office at 215.677.2088.

Tailgating Survivor’s Guide

What to Bring

  • Chairs– Because we will be in a parking lot, you’ll want to be as comfortable as possible while you eat and hang out. For the experienced tailgater, this may be a recliner, but to novices, a lawn chair will do just fine.
  • Games– The ultimate tailgating experience has to include games. We’d encourage you to bring games such as washers, cornhole, or ladderball which are all classic tailgating games. First time tailgaters may be confused at these names. If that is you, find an experienced tailgater in the group and just go with the flow.

Jesus—Good News

The apostle Paul wrote a letter to a church like ours in a city like ours & said,
“I am eager to proclaim the gospel to you who are in Rome.”

It’s like he’s saying, “I can’t wait to come to your city and talk to you about the good news of Jesus.”

You might be wondering, “Why would he be so eager to go there & proclaim the gospel?”

He makes it crystal clear—“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Paul is eager to proclaim the good news of Jesus because it has the power to bring God’s life-transforming grace into peoples lives.

Jesus Rescues—he forgives, delivers & reconciles.

Jesus Rules—he stabilizes, envisions & leads.

Jesus Renews—he restores, empowers & transforms.

When the gospel of Jesus Christ is unleashed, God’s saving power goes out transforming individual lives & entire cities.

The apostle knew all this from experience. Paul not only experienced the life-transforming power of Jesus himself, he had also been witnessing the life-transforming power of Jesus change the lives of countless others. All over the world the good news of Jesus was turning life after life, city after city, upside down for the fame of God!

Grace City, we want to grow in our faith that the good news of the crucified and risen Jesus has the power to turn individual lives & entire neighborhoods upside down for the fame of God & the renewal of our city. We long for this same eagerness to tell people the good news about Jesus. It’s our mission to unleash the gospel!

Are you ready & eager to proclaim it?  Do you believe in its power?

We trust these messages from the book of Romans will help stir you to be ready & eager to proclaim the gospel expecting Jesus to rescue, rule & renew all throughout the neighborhoods of Northeast Philadelphia.

If you’re not sure that the gospel of Jesus is good news join us over the next three Sundays as we consider why we believe it, celebrate it & can’t wait to tell you about it.
