I want to highlight two albums from Sovereign Grace Music. One relates to our current sermon series, and the other connects with Sunday’s sermon in particular.
We’ve been singing several songs from Psalms during this Summer’s series, “Psalms: Fascinated by God.” The album, with each song based on a Psalm from the Old Testament, celebrates God’s character, offers exuberant praise, expresses desires for God’s presence, and cries out to God for help in times of trouble. The cumulative effect is to call us to praise the God who is always worthy, to “taste and see that the LORD is good.”
Come Weary Saints is for those who, like Asaph in Psalm 77, are in a time when they need to “fly by the instruments” because they are in a fog. “The instruments” are telling us that God is real, that he is strong, and that he uses his strength to redeem his people and lead them all the way home. The songs on this album will help us as we strive to remember the God who works wonders and to meditate on his marvelous deeds by pointing us to Jesus, the great savior who showed his love by giving his life for our sin.
Today the newest album from Sovereign Grace Music released, “30: Three Decades of Songs for the Church.” God has shown incredible favor over the last 30 years to Sovereign Grace Music and this album reflects some of our favorite songs from the past 30 years.
Sovereign Grace Music describes the album like this:
It all started in 1984 with the release of Mighty God, a cassette tape of a live recording with songs penned by Mark Altrogge, Steve & Vikki Cook, and Bob Kauflin.
Since that time thirty years ago, Sovereign Grace Music has produced over 60 projects with musical styles ranging from rap to hymns, from rock to alternative, from remixes to choruses. We’ve recorded more than 500 songs written by over thirty writers, but our purpose has never changed: to serve the local church with songs that are theologically-driven and gospel-rich. Our music is now being translated into thirteen languages and we’re grateful to play a part in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
To celebrate God’s faithfulness, we asked a number of artists and musicians we’ve come to know through the years to record a version of some of our more well known songs. We were excited about what they came up with, and hope you will be too.
“Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day” (Ps. 96:1-2).
We would encourage you to download this album and let the truth of the songs saturate your soul as you worship Jesus.
